No Fault Found in Fuel Control Switches During Air India 787 Crash Investigation
India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has shared new details from the investigation into the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad in June 2025.
Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol said investigators conducted a detailed examination of the locking mechanism of the aircraft’s fuel control switches at Boeing’s facility in Seattle. The switches, which control fuel flow to the engines, were found to have no technical defects.
The investigation is now focused on the Thrust Control Module (TCM), which manages engine thrust, with technical examinations continuing in cooperation with Boeing.
According to the preliminary report, both engine fuel control switches moved simultaneously from the RUN position to CUTOFF shortly after takeoff, resulting in a loss of thrust from both engines. However, investigators have not yet determined how the switches changed position.
